'Call the Midwife' Season 5 News: Season 6 Announced Even Before New Season Premieres

Season 5 of "Call the Midwife" is expected to premiere in a few months, but even before its release, BBC has renewed the franchise for a sixth season, which comes as a good news to the many fans who have been following the medical drama.

According to Carter Matt, the show's executive producer, Pippa Harris, said in a statement, "I am delighted that the BBC has decided to commission series six of Call the Midwife even before we have gone on air with series five. It really demonstrates their commitment to and passion for the show."

In her statement, Harris also commended writer Heidi Thomas for her talent and hard work, as well as the entire cast and crew for building the success of the franchise for the previous seasons.

She also said that she believes season 5 is "our strongest yet," which means fans are in for a much more intense and powerful story line that opens the eyes of the world to the real deal behind medicine, specifically in delivering babies.

Meanwhile, it was revealed earlier that Miranda Hart won't be back to reprise her role as Chummy in season 5. Although she only appeared in some of the previous seasons as a guest star, her character paved the way to create the story line that fans loved.

On the other hand, Hart herself said in a recent interview that there are still chances for her to be back on the series. The reason why she won't be in season 5 is because she is working on several other projects that will make it difficult for her to juggle her time if she decides to be in the upcoming installment.

The story line for season 5 remains unknown as production has done a wonderful job in keeping everything under wraps, but rumors suggest that the script offers a more pleasant story to Helen George's Trixie, who fell into alcoholism in the previous season.

"Call the Midwife" premieres on April 3, 2016.
