'Captain America: Civil War' News: Promising Test Screenings For Marvel
"Captain America: Civil War," the much-anticipated opener of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third "Captain America" stand-alone film, is now in post-production and going through test screenings and additional photography, Collider reports.
And, as Birth.Movies.Death. has learned, the film has been doing "exceptionally well" at these test screenings. According to the website, five of its sources have reported that audiences "loved the movie" and that "the only thing [the sources] disagree on is whether the movie tested as well as or better than 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' which had previously been the best-testing Marvel movie."
As for what fans can expect regarding the movie's plot, the website's sources said that "Captain America: Civil War" "doesn't pull any punches in the third act" and that "if Marvel execs had been concerned about the film going dark places, these stellar test screenings have alleviated all those fears."

The report that the film does not "pull any punches" could be taken to mean that Marvel kept themselves from killing off one of the beloved characters, as many have speculated they will. But though this may seem like good news, Collider reminds fans to take the report with a grain of salt, as test screening reviews have a history of failing at accurately predicting how well a particular film will be received by audiences at its release. As the website notes, "Mad Max: Fury Road" earned mixed reviews from its test screenings, but the film went on to win many critics awards and earned ten Academy Award nominations, including the one for Best Picture.
"Captain America: Civil War" stars Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Vision (Paul Bettany), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (William Hurt). The film will introduce two characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Daniel Brühl is set to play the film's villain, Helmut Zemo.
"Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters on May 6.
