'Castle' Season 8 News: Co-Exec Producers Clarify Cancellation Rumors
ABC's hit police procedural drama TV series "Castle" has recently been pointed out in the rumor mills indicating its apparent cancellation. However, it appears that this won't really be the case as there are still more stories to tell about the famous mystery novelist, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and the tough NYPD officer, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic).
In a recent interview with TV Line, co-executive producers Terence Paul Winter an Alexi Hawley clarified the issue and even spoke about the future season.
Hawley, nonetheless, admits that it would still be too early to establish the fact that the show will or will not be cancelled after the current season. According to him, the crime drama's fate lies in the hands of the network bosses who often make their decisions at the final hour.
"The reality is that the network execs won't make that decision until very late," the EP stated. He added that their present concern is to deliver a "satisfying story" and end season 8 in an "exciting way."
For Winter, he thinks that the show still "has a lot of life in it…as do these characters" that need to be told. However, the showrunner promised that regardless of the outcome, fans would still be getting a conclusion that they deserve.
He cited series creator Andrew W. Marlowe and writer Terri Edda Miller who, as he teased, had written the Season 8 finale as though it is the series finale.
"…there's a very good chance that we'll most likely be doing that here. We hope to come back for Season 9, but we have to act as if [we might not]," he told the media outlet.
"Castle" is slated to return to the small screens for the second half of its current eighth season on Feb. 1, 2016 with a brand new episode titled "Tone Death."
