'Castle' Season 8 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Why Was Castle Missing Last Season?

Details about Castle's disappearance in the previous season of the series "Castle" have been revealed.

According to TV Line, the executive producer of the series Alexi Hawley, shared some details about Rick Castle's, played by Nathan Fillion, absence in a previous episode. After many rumors, Hawley teased that reason for the character's absence last season will be revealed in an upcoming episode.

He said, "We're going to go to Castle's missing time next. Not right away, but definitely in the middle third of the season. We haven't nailed the story down for it, but we do like the idea that something that Castle came across during his missing time is actually why his memory was wiped - and it wasn't necessarily about the reason we showed in season 7... But we haven't nailed it all the way down yet,"

In addition, Hawley also explained that his disappearance will be related to his wife, played by Stana Katic. However, even though the series introduces twists with the aim to entice audiences, it was revealed that it had the opposite effect. Fans of the series have been questioning the recent tactics for the show.

The executive producers of the series have been toying with Beckett and Castle's relationship. The first half of season 8 had the two pretending to be separated in front of their friends and family, when in fact, they are actually back together. Hawley explained that this is to allow the audience to be engaged in the joke that Beckett and Castle are playing in front of the other characters.

However, much like the other plot twists presented in the series, it was not well received by the audiences. Many have been taking out their frustration on social media, with criticism towards the show's producers.

"Castle" Season 8 is expected to return on ABC this Feb. 1.
