'Chicago P.D.' Season 3 Spoilers, Plot Rumors: Voight Confronts His Past, Erin Deals With Aftermath

"Chicago P.D." is headed back to NBC for a third season this fall, and spoilers are emerging online for the upcoming 22-episode season.

After NBC renewed "Chicago P.D." for Season 3 in February, spoilers for the police procedural drama have appeared to usher in the series for its Sept. 30 premiere.

Sergeant Henry Voight (Jason Beghe) is on the line to come face to face with a shadowy character from his past who will make him take a closer look at the things he has done with a good dose of self-loathing.

Known as the cop who wants justice but doesn't always to the right thing, audiences will get to see whether his old habits from the past have followed him into the present. When an ex-convict he previously put away gets out due to an earlier glitch, Voight gets an unexpected glimpse of the kind of cop he used to be, and probably still is.

Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) faced a tough Season 2 after she turned in her badge following a disastrous confrontation with corrupt narcotics cops. Faced with guilt and depression, she returns to her old drinking habits, giving scriptwriters the challenge of getting her back into the force.

According to TV Guide, the kidnapping of an important character in the series will serve to turn Erin's life around and sharpen her focus on righting things back to the way they were.

Surprisingly, her misguided mother (Markie Post), the very same person pushing her to quit the force in the first place, will make another appearance, and the two are going to be seen spending a lot of time (drinking) together in the coming season.

With her troubled past not too far behind, audiences are likely to be on tenterhooks to see how Detective Lindsay will deal with the aftermath of her resignation and her return to drinking when the third season premieres.
