Chicago White Sox Roster News and Rumors: Adam Laroche Pulls off a Surprise with Retirement News
At 36, Adam LaRoche is someone who would call it quits and no one's going to be surprised by it. But that's not the case if he is slated to earn $13 million this season. The Chicago White Sox were as surprised as everyone else when he announced he's retiring from baseball, but the reason for it is more personal than one would presume.
As everyone was trying to make sense out of it, the Chicago Tribune reported the day after that the reason for LaRoche's abrupt retirement before even the season could start is because of the club's decision to limit his son's presence in their facility. By the looks of it, it actually is more personal than the typical reasons why athletes walk away from the sport and money.
LaRoche's son is a regular in the team's clubhouse – a scene that everyone else in the team knows and has seen for the last year. As a matter of fact, the same report revealed that the teenager son already has his own locker.
It was White Sox executive vice president Ken Williams who revealed the news that the 36-year old will be leaving the team and in the process forego the $13 million owed to him for the season. With the news that it was about the management's decision to limit his son's presence in the clubhouse, there will certainly be an expected debate as to the correctness of allowing children and kids inside the locker rooms of professional sports teams.
But whether it really is true, one cannot deny the fact that LaRoche endured the worst season of his career last year, where he only hit a measly .207, in the process hitting 12 home runs and 44 RBIs. Though it would be unfair to judge him as someone who's age has caught up with him, especially that he was bothered by back spasms in the latter part of the season.
