Christina Grimmie News & Update: 'The Voice' Coach Adam Levine Paying for Ex-Contestant's Funeral
Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has offered to pay for the funeral expenses of Christina Grimmie, a The Voice alum whom he previously coached two years ago.
Blown Away by Levine's Gesture
The singer's management confirmed with Entertainment Tonight that Levine will shoulder the financial costs of the funeral of the 22-year-old budding artist who was shot in the head close range while signing autographs during a meet-and-greet at The Plaza Live in Orlando last Friday. The "Sugar" singer coached Grimmie during Season 6 of reality show The Voice.
On his Facebook page, Christina's brother, Marcus, said he learned about Levine's offer from his mother who was contacted by the Maroon 5 frontman. "[He] said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away," Marcus noted. Aside from this, the GoFundMe page dedicated for his sister has gathered around $150,000 dollars as of Tuesday.
Adam previously expressed his condolences to Grimmie's family, saying that he and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, devastated with her tragic passing. He also noted that the young and talented singer was taken too soon from her family and loved ones.
Her death surely shocked not only the people close to her but the entire world and what remains to be the biggest question is why gunman Kevin James Loibl targeted her then killed himself.
Incident Linked to Disturbing Online Posts?
While the police still has no clear motive for Grimmie's killing, netizens have started speculating that this could be linked to some disturbing posts online weeks before the singer was shot. One social media user expressed frustration about getting blocked by a "minor celebrity."
This individual reportedly expressed the plan to commit suicide if the same incident happened again. The said user also added that if the celebrity will continue this behavior then it would be better for the artist to "gjve up on life."
There is still no clear connection between the online posts and Grimmie's death but fans have found the weird similarities of the description to the young singer. The police have earlier checked Loibl's social media account but there were no signs that he was stalking Grimmie in the past.
Vigil for Grimmie
On Monday night, a candlelight vigil was organized in memory of the former The Voice contestant. Marcus offered a touching tribute to her younger sister calling her an "awesome" individual. He told people who came to express their condolences that Grimmie loved singing so much.
Aside from family members, friends and other guests like Mayor Robert Brown also got the chance to share about their memories with Christina. Some people also showed up wearing "Team Grimmie" shirts and joined hundreds who showed up for the vigil.
