Cleveland Browns Injury Rumors: Johnny Manziel Diagnosed with Concussion

Johnny Manziel will no longer make an appearance this season after the Cleveland Browns announced on Thursday that the star quarterback has been diagnosed with a concussion, which means he won't be able to make it to the team's regular season finale.

The 23-year-old suffered the concussion last Sunday in the Browns' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was then placed in the NFL's concussion protocol three days after. Manziel and the team's medical staff did not think about a concussion immediately after the incident, but when he arrived at the team's practice facility complaining about symptoms related to a concussion, it was when team officials decided he be evaluated.

The diagnosis is no surprise, though, after seeing him run for 100 yards while getting hit hard several times courtesy of a string of Kansas City defenders.

26-year-old Austin Davis will be filling in for the injured Manziel, making his second start this season, while Terrelle Pryor is expected to back him up.

While the young Manziel appears to be the future of this team, there are still a lot of uncertainties surrounding him. The concussion is just one of the recent issues involving the quarterback. Both head coach Mike Pettine and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo think that he needs to create stability in his personal life for him to become the team's full-fledged starter. "Here is a guy that has an NFL skill set. He's very talented and likable guy. But there are problems there that we'll talk as we're headed to the offseason," Pettine said. The coach seems to be referring to Browns players who should focus on getting themselves in good shape and positive in their lives off the field to become effective.

As talented as he is, Manziel just could not boast a successful season. As a matter of fact, his numbers are more disappointing than decent, especially if one looks at this potential. With the concussion, he finishes the year with 129-of-223 for 1,500 yards, with only seven touchdowns and five interceptions. In six starts for the team, he just managed a record of 2-4.
