Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Rumors: Cavs Interested in Trading for Markieff Morris
Last year was a successful one for the Cleveland Cavaliers when it came to player movement and trades. They got the type of players that helped them reach the NBA Finals, only to be halted by the Golden State Warriors.
This season, they look like title contenders once again, but it does not mean they're slowing down with regard to exploring trade options. The latest rumor is that they're very interested in trading for embattled Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris.
There is one interesting thing about the prospect of adding Morris to the Cavs frontline. For one, they couldn't find someone in their roster to guard and match up with the Warriors' Draymond Green. They have a similar type of player in Tristan Thompson, but he definitely is a lot slower. With a power forward like Morris, Cleveland has someone who can go toe-to-toe with Green and even score some points for them if ever they meet in the Finals once again.
Furthermore, this trade makes a lot of sense because Phoenix is dying to get rid of Morris after a couple of incidents involving him denouncing and criticizing his own team. Morris' attitude is not a problem in an organization like the Cavaliers because LeBron James makes it a point to motivate and lead his teammates. That is exemplified by the transformation of J.R. Smith and Imam Shumpert.
With Morris on board, the Cavs are getting a player who will be considered and looked upon as a long-term solution to the team's lack of power forward stability. Their frontline is already formidable with Kevin Love, Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, and Anderson Varejao, but none of them comes equipped with the skill set of Morris. It does not mean they're inferior players, especially Love, but the thing is Morris will offer something new to the team and that alone makes them an interesting prospect to dethrone the mighty Warriors.
