Dallas Cowboys News: Jason Witten Reaches 1,000 Catches in Career

The Dallas Cowboys put themselves back in playoff contention after winning over the Washington Redskins, 19-16, on Monday night. But the victory was sweeter for tight end Jason Witten, who saw himself becoming only the 12th player in the history of the NFL to reach 1,000 career receptions, doing it in the second quarter of the game with a seven-yard catch.

Actually, Witten's achievement is more amazing considering that he's just the second tight end in history to have achieved the feat.

But the 33-year-old veteran isn't the only one who made history in the NFL in a rather fruitful Week 13. Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald also joined the club, making him the 11th player to do so. Quite interestingly, Fitzgerald also is the youngest to achieve it, at 32.

Witten couldn't hide his excitement of being able to achieve the honor of becoming a member of a very exclusive group. Talking to Peter King of MMQB, he said that he's just humbled to join that group because of the coveted names on the list. "To me, the highest honor you can have is when people say you played the game at a high level and you played it at a high level for a long time," he added.

Witten himself is a highly accomplished professional football player, having been a member of the first team All-Pro selection twice. He also is a ten-time Pro Bowler. Aside from the new feat, he also currently holds two NFL records – the number of catches in a season by a tight end (110) and the number of catches in a game by a tight end (18).

The third round selection of the 2003 Draft out of Tennessee is also the franchise leader in receptions and has produced a total of 59 career touchdown catches in his career.
