Dallas Cowboys Roster News: Tony Romo Comeback Latest
At this point in the Cowboys' season, it looks like the talk of the return of star quarterback Tony Romo is useless, seeing that the team is currently staring at its longest drought in recent memory. The defending NFC East champions haven't won a single game in six encounters that Romo missed, making it the longest since 1989, when some players of the team weren't even born yet.
It's hard to argue with the fact the 35-year-old quarterback is the face of this franchise; but it does not mean that they just let everything fall down without their star. Romo is still out with a broken left collarbone and there is no certainty if the team can still make it up when he returns, especially with the luckless fact that in the history of the league, only one team was able to make it to the playoffs after piling a record of 2-6, according to Fox Sports.
The Cowboys were at the brink of winning a tight one against Philadelphia last Monday, but Jordan Matthews had a 41-yard touchdown catch in overtime, giving his team the win, 33-27.
Team officials revealed that Dallas will be playing just one more game before Romo is expected to make a comeback, and it will be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Romo is eligible to return against the Dolphins in Miami.
It's interesting, though, that in all those losses when Romo didn't play only one was a blowout — a 30-6 defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots. Dallas also missed the services of Dez Bryant in that game.
With a hole getting deeper and deeper, the only thing that the Cowboys can hope right now is to see Romo come back and at least motivate this struggling squad. However, they are nowhere near the final playoff spot in the NFC East; which leads us to think if it is really worthy to force the quarterback to make a return in a season that is all but gone.
