Dallas Cowboys Rumors and News 2015: Cornerback Tyler Patmon Released
So much for the Dallas Cowboys' woes this season; the team decided to let go of cornerback Tyler Patmon, the announcement made on Tuesday by head coach Jason Garrett in a short press conference ahead of their game against the New York Jets. In connection to that move, Dallas also waived Darius Eubanks from their practice squad.
Reports are coming in saying that the reason for releasing Patmon was because of his inability to become physical enough in games that the coaching staff believed he could have done more. With just three more games remaining in their season and the playoffs almost out of the picture, two guys are expected to take his place for the moment — Terrance Mitchell and Deji Olatoye.
The release of Patmon is somewhat surprising and highly unexpected because Garrett praised him after replacing former cornerback Corey White. He said in a previous interview that Patmon has been doing a great job and that he's taken full advantage of the opportunities given to him.
Now it looks like Garrett and his staff suddenly had a change of heart, and opinion for that matter.
Patmon came into this season expecting to be the third corner, especially when Orlando Scandrick suffered an ACL injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He was able to play in 11 total games with two starts.
The problem is the Cowboys didn't feel they'd improve with him. "We felt like this was the move for our team right now. He's been a good player for us and he has a chance to be a good player in this league," Garrett said.
He actually did a good job in his first game, recording four combined tackles. However, he didn't live up to his fine performance early in the season, eventually losing his place in Dallas after the team got trumped by the Saints.
