Dallas Mavericks Roster, Injury Rumors: Chandler Parsons Has Torn Meniscus, May Be out for the Season

The Dallas Mavericks' playoff hopes have been dealt a huge blow after forward Chandler Parsons suffered a torn meniscus that the team later figured out to be very serious that he needs to have surgery to repair it.

ESPN reports that the 27-year old former University of Florida star may eventually be absent for the remaining games of the season because the torn meniscus in the right knee can only be addressed properly if he undergoes arthroscopic surgery. While he hasn't really missed that many games in his career, this latest injury is more like the tipping point for a questionable knee that's been bothering him for years now. The same problem caused him the last remaining games of the previous season. At that point, he also had to undergo surgery, but not in the nature of this latest injury.

According to CBS, he expects to get a second opinion from another doctor right before he makes the decision. But he needs to get that opinion fast if he wants to recover fast before the postseason. However, if the original recommendation to undergo surgery is confirmed, then his season is all but over.

He currently owns averages of 13.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Mavericks. But his biggest contribution to the team is his accuracy and consistently when it comes to shooting percentage. Aside from shooting almost 50 percent from the floor, he also shot an impressive 42 percent at the three-point line.

Unlike his early years in the league, Parsons committed himself to training all facets of the game, which resulted to significant improvements in defense and playmaking. He can run the floor, keeping up with the younger and quicker guards in the league.

As of this writing, the Mavericks are still in the fight for the last playoff position in the West, but it will surely be a more difficult endeavor without Parsons in the lineup.
