'Darkest Dungeon' Coming To Nintendo Switch According To Developer
The Nintendo Switch library of games just keeps getting bigger and bigger with the latest game announcement being "Darkest Dungeon." Developer Red Hook recently announced that the hit indie dungeon crawler will be making its way to the hybrid console soon.
In a Twitter post, the developer cleverly hid that the footage of the game was actually being played on the Nintendo Switch. The post doesn't reveal much, but given that a playable Switch version is already available for testing, a release date might not be too far into the future.
In "Darkest Dungeon," players assemble an adventuring party to explore and clear out the grottoes beneath their estate. It has the standard dungeon crawler troops of titles like Fate and Diablo with an added twist with regards to how it interprets and applies the stress of adventuring in dangerous and unknown places.
This is done by adding a stress level to each party member that, when maximized, can cause them to go haywire. These stress levels can be increased by various fears that come with the environment or character faults such as fear of the dark. The higher the character's stress levels the more these faults are brought to bear in the game.
The game was launched on Steam Early Access back in 2015 after a successful Kickstarter campaign which yielded $313,000 of funding from over 10,000 backers. The game was subsequently released in full on 2016 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linus, and iOS. "Darkest Dungeon" was nominated for the Independent Games Festival grand prize for 2016.
A DLC (downloadable content) was released for the game back in June titled "The Crimson Court." The DLC included a Courtyard environment, a new playable class, a faction with new enemies, five new boss encounters, as well as new trinkets and Hamlet upgrade buildings.
