Denver Broncos News 2015: Osweiler to Start in Regular Season Finale

It looks like Peyton Manning will have to wait a little longer before he could go out there and play once again, as Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said that there are no expected changes in the quarterback position heading into the regular-season finale for the team.

The Broncos will be facing the San Diego Chargers on Sunday for their last game, but Manning will again be out while Brock Osweiler preps to start, which also means that it will be his seventh straight start this season.

The coach said that he still needs to talk to Manning this week to figure out the kind and level of action he is capable of doing in practice. By the looks of it, Kubiak is in no hurry to have his star quarterback play once again.

Manning got the injury, a torn plantar fascia situated near his left heel in Denver's loss to Indianapolis last Nov.8, but he has since practiced two times but without full contact, first on Dec. 16 and then on Dec. 17.

But Osweiler so far has played decently in the absence of Manning. He is now 4-2 and showed impressive nerves in overtime victories against the Patriots and Bengals. To sum it up, he produced and completed about 60 percent of his passes, to go along with four interceptions and nine touchdowns.

To add to that, it looks like Osweiler is a good fit to the kind of offensive system Kubiak is using with the Broncos. Before C.J. Anderson went down with an injury, he and running back Ronnie Hillman played well with Osweiler, successfully combining for 333 rushing yards.

Once Manning comes back healthy, it is still unclear as to how Kubiak and the rest of the coaching staff will play it. Should Manning immediately take over the starting role? That's an interesting thought heading to the postseason.
