Derrick Rose Trade News: Chicago Bulls Point Guard Drops Free Agency Bomb

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is reportedly looking forward to free agency in 2017 and he broke the news on Media Day.

Many NBA players have been attracted to the prospect of free agency in 2017 after they observed the potential earnings. Derrick Rose is one of those players who are looking forward to the end of their contract so they could enjoy the financial benefits, according to CSN Chicago.

"This whole summer I had tunnel vision. My mindset was just making sure that I was working out every day, and spending as much time as possible with my son," CSN Chicago quotes Rose. "And focusing on those two things. Making sure my family is financially stable, as far as seeing all the money that they're passing out in this league. Just telling the truth..."

Rose is bound to end his contract in two years, and by then, he could embark on free agency after the 2016-2017 NBA season. Based on the "Derrick Rose Rule," which was laid down in the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement for players, a player who can finish his rookie contract can be paid 30 percent of his salary cap, the report details.

The Chicago Bulls player, however, clarified that he would not take his talent elsewhere, but would stick with his present team. However, he did say that he is preparing himself to earn more for his family. Although they are already "comfortable," he still wants to give the best for his son, Sports World Report relays.

Rose clearly had the end of his contract in mind because he mentioned the topic, even though it was not brought up during Media Day. He emphasized that he is preparing for that day.

Right now, Derrick Rose is the highest-paid Chicago Bull player for the present season. With a salary of $20.09 million, he takes the ninth place in the NBA.
