'Doctor Who' Spinoff 'Class' Coming To BBC America, Peter Capaldi To Make An Appearance

Good news for all "Doctor Who" fans. Network BBC is brewing something for its fans while waiting for the 10th installment of the show and it's going to be a young adult-oriented spin-off series titled "Class." According to Blastr, the companion series was announced back in October.

It was originally set to air in BBC Three, making it exclusive to British cable. This led many of the fans to ask whether the show will also air in the United States. Fortunately, it has already been announced that "Class" will also air in BBC America. The news was confirmed on Friday during the Television Critics Association in Pasadena, California.

There is no exact release date of the series yet but it's expected to come around fall this year. "Class" was already slated for airing on BBC Three in the U.K., as noted in Variety.

For those who are not aware yet of what the spin-off will be about, "Class" is an eight-part series created by young-adult author Patrick Ness. As detailed in BBC One, it will be set in contemporary London wherein "incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space."

There are no details yet on what the series will focus on but it will feature Coal Hill School, which is the same institution that Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) used to teach in. She won't be making an appearance though because in "Doctor Who," she is both dead and also doing some time and space travel with Ashildr (Maisie Williams).

With that said, "Class" is going to be a whole new storyline and it's going to introduce new characters, new villains, new creatures and definitely new adventures.

"I'm astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself," stated Ness, according to the Variety report. "I can't wait for people to meet the heroes of 'Class,' to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams," he teased.

But the upcoming series may have a familiar face every now and then. According to Doctor Who Watch, Peter Capaldi, who plays as The Doctor in the main series, will be making an appearance on the show as the Twelfth Doctor.

To find out more, fans will have to stay tuned.
