'Elementary' Season 4 News, Spoilers: Holmes, Watson Track Down Computer Hacker; Sherlock's Dad Invites Joan For Dinner

CBS' hit crime drama TV series "Elementary" Season 4 continues this week with a brand new and exciting episode which will see Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) working together to track down a computer hacker blamed for the death of a visiting business man and two others. Meanwhile, ongoing rumors surrounding the show indicate an apparent cancellation due to its poor airtime performance. Could this be true?

According to the synopsis shared over at The Futon Critic for the episode titled "Murder Ex Machina," the duo will be following the trail of a computer whiz who is allegedly responsible for three murders, including the death of a mega rich Russian national who happens to be visiting New York City. What could have driven the hacker to kill these three individuals? Will the sleuth and his ever trusty companion be able to catch up to him in time before he ends another innocent life? The fact that this case heavily involves the technicalities of computers and the web in general, will Sherlock's fact-finding, detective skills prove to be useful in this situation?

In another development, the TFC summary hinted of a dinner invitation for Joan courtesy of Morland (John Noble). What's interesting is that the date is just for two. What could the two be talking about in this secret meeting? Will this once again involve Papa Holmes' effort to get even closer to his estranged son? With his decision to only meet up with Sherlock's sober companion, it appears that the two will be brewing up a plan. How will the recovering addict react to this rendezvous?

In related news, a report from Carter Matt cited the recent TV rating stat of the show which is in pretty bad shape. As it turns out, the current season has suffered a 20% drop in ratings compared to the previous season in 18-49 bracket.

"Elementary's" renewal odds, according to the site, are "moderately low,"  which means Season 4 could be the show's last run.

But fans will have to wait for the network's decision. For the meantime, "Elementary" airs Jan. 21 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
