'Empire' Season 3 News: The Lyons Will Face More Problems

The Lyon family is expected to bring more drama to the small screen.

Fans have been waiting to hear more about the upcoming season of the hit series "Empire."

"Empire" Season 2 left fans with so many questions after the finale presented a shocking cliffhanger. The previous episodes portrayed the downfall of the Lyon family, with many new characters to challenge their hold on the Empire.

With that, fans are wondering about what the new season will bring for the characters. The producer of the series, Ilene Chaiken, spoke to TV Line about the upcoming events in "Empire" Season 3. She revealed that the new season will explore a different theme.

She explained that fans will get to see a face-off between dark and light. There are hints that this will be between Lucious (Terrence Howard) and his half brother Tariq (Morocco Omari).

"Empire" Season 2 showed that the tension between the two brothers started during the death of their father. Fans saw Tariq killing their father when Lucious was just a child. This conflict between the two brothers is expected to challenge the dynamics of the family.

Chaiken said, "What we're setting up is a battle of dark vs. light. Who are the Lyons and how will they continue to define themselves going forward? Can they ever change? Is Lucious the dark lord, pulling them all in the other direction? And really, where does Tariq fit in with all of this? I would venture that if Tariq really is Lucious' half-brother, there probably isn't a good one and a bad one."

Aside from the arrival of Lucious' brother, the upcoming season will also put Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) as a challenge for Lucious. Cookie will be seen going against Lucious in order to keep him from controling the recording company.

Chaiken said, "The family is together, the company is together, and Lucious and Cookie will be in one another's faces and lives but her [being finished with Lucious is going to color everything."

A separate interview by TV Line also addressed the storyline of Jamal. Chaiken explained that Jamal could see some distance between his family, which will bring interesting obstacles. She added, "The question now is, can Jamal also bring his brothers and his mother along with him on this stance, and say 'This is no longer how we have to go about our lives and our business?'"

While there has yet to be any official announcements regarding "Empire" Season 3, it is expected to air later this year.
