Eric Kohler Speaks Up About His Disappearance: 'I Am an Addict'
Following his disappearance that sparked a national search and led many people to worry about his status, Eric Kohler has finally spoken out.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Kohler explained what he has been going through and how he decided to disappear without letting anyone know of his whereabouts for one week.
"Three weeks ago I disappeared," he wrote, adding that he calls the experience as a "frenzy" and a "downward spiral." He said he was unconsciously selfish for departing from the people around him, but he later realized that despite all the chaotic events that took place in his one week away from the world, his friends, loved ones, family, and coworkers have showered support for him.

The 27-year-old further explained that he never expected to receive the amount of support that even people he had never met offered to him, noting that people from the around the world "united" just to show him how he needed support even when he thought he didn't.
"My name is Eric Kohler and I am an addict," he bravely stated. The visual effects (VFX) producer who had worked on both "X-Men" and "The Avengers" said he isn't really proud of what has been happening in his life for the past weeks. On the other hand, he realized that addiction is something that should be taken seriously and he now knows that he can get through the struggle through first accepting that he needs help.
Kohler didn't specify which type of addiction he is suffering from, but he said it was fueled by the huge amount of stress, exhaustion, and high expectations that he shouldered.
He then said that he came out with his struggles to become a voice to others who are going through a similar state. "You will be pleasantly surprised to realize how much we, as humans, are capable of," referring to the support that people can give when one reaches out to others about addiction problems.
The producer was found safe in Mexico, 10 days after he reportedly went missing.
