Erin Andrews on Richard Sherman Interview: It Was 'Awesome,' He's One of My Favorites

While the discussion a focused on Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman regarding his post-game comments last Sunday, little has been heard from the person who gave that interview: Fox Sports' Erin Andrews.

Andrews is now breaking her silence in an interview with Elle magazine and has some very positive things to say about the outspoken Seattle player.

"It was awesome because I've done so many interviews that are just so cliché and so rehearsed and the same old same old where you feel like you're sleepwalking," Andrews told Elle. "This is one where I was like, 'What is happening right now?' I've never been a part of something like that, and obviously that's why everyone nationally is talking about it."

Andrews added that while previously not known widely around the league, she has always admired Sherman.

"I actually really like Richard Sherman a lot," she said. "He's probably one of my favorite football players. The guy is so smart and he's got an unbelievable story. That was just pure, raw emotion."

Stanford coach David Shaw knows Sherman from his college days and revealed he wasn't surprised by the player's brash postgame rant against 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree.

"That's Richard," Stanford coach David Shaw told Fox Sports. "It was in the moment. Bill Walsh said you want guys with high character who are great players and great people. But every once in a while, you have to line up and defend Jerry Rice. And the guy who does that has to be on the edge. That's where Richard is."

Sherman was the 24th cornerback picked in the 2011 draft.

"He is the farthest thing from a thug you can imagine. Thugs don't volunteer to help out at Special Olympics when they're in high school," Shaw said. "But the flip side is a guy who's ultracompetitive. You put him in that environment, where the game is very personal, and when the gauntlet's thrown down, he's ready."
