'FIFA 18' Nintendo Switch Version Missing Features

Chief among these is the ability to have friends play with each other online. As of the moment, online play for the Switch version can only be done via random match-ups.

Obviously, many gamers who bought the game for the Switch got ahead of themselves to complain to EA. However, despite its reputation in the industry, the company is not at fault here, mostly.

Eurogamer revealed that Nintendo had neglected to develop a built-in invite or party system for the Switch. As a result, it is up to the developers to make one in order for players to find each other online.

It appears, however, that EA decided against making such as a system for the game, at least for the moment. Although not impossible – Nintendo was able to transcend the Switch's limitations with "Mario Kart 8" and "Splatoon 2" – it certainly requires some investment. For a third-party developer like EA who just recently decided to make games for the Switch, such an investment might have been too risky especially for just one platform.

Aside from a party system, the Switch version of "FIFA 18" also lacks the Frostbite engine and as a result, The Journey. The Journey, the game's story mode introduced back in "FIFA 17," is developed with the Frostbite game engine. And since the Switch does not come with the engine, the Journey story mode is also missing from the game.

Hopefully, EA remedies these issues with the release of "FIFA 19" on the Switch. The publisher has already revealed its plans to release more "FIFA" games to the hybrid console. With the testing phase all but complete, it should be safe to say the EA will invest more on developing games for the Switch.

"FIFA 18" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows.
