'FIFA 18' Review: How Does It Stack Up To The Competition?

It's that time of the year when EA's hit soccer simulation gets its latest iteration for fans to enjoy. With only a few days away from release, the question on everyone's minds is how "FIFA 18" will perform compared to its predecessors and of course, its rivals.

For starters, the game is really good, but that's about it. While EA might enjoy the profits it will bring in from soccer fans around the world, the game certainly brings virtually nothing to the table when it comes to game-changing features.

Nevertheless, the lack of innovation is unlikely to prevent fans from enjoying it as long as the core gameplay remains well-made. Thankfully, this is one field that EA spared no expense in trying to perfect.

Most fans will agree that the most noticeable change in "FIFA 18" is the improved responsiveness. Sure it's not as responsive as the latest fighting game out there but the buffer between the player pressing the button and the actions being carried out in-game has certainly been whittled down.

EA also made attribute distribution among players more balanced by making other attributes more effective instead of just whacking each one with either a buff or a nerf. This means that athletes are more accurate with their moves which certainly do more when it comes to incorporating the player's skills.

For fans who love soccer and everything that goes with it, the game is definitely right up their alley with its many side features. The core game is still pretty awesome and with these new tweaks, it's certainly better than ever.

However, for the purist soccer fans who want realism above all else, the game's long-time rival in the form of Konami's "Pro Evolution Soccer 2018" still wins this round. PES still remains to be the most authentic soccer simulator in the market as far as the core gameplay is concerned and not even beautifully rendered graphics of the Frostbite engine can topple Konami's realistic depiction of soccer games.

Nevertheless, "FIFA 18" is still a must-have for any soccer fan. It takes players on a journey not just on the green but behind the scenes as well. While some die-hard soccer fans might not care for what happens outside the field, EA's decision to bring the full package is very much appreciated.
