Floyd Mayweather Talks to Conor McGregor, Claims Fight with UFC Star the Only One He's Considering
When Floyd Mayweather Jr. left boxing undefeated, no one really took his claim of retiring for good seriously. After all, he's done it before, only to come back to cash in for another heavily promoted boxing match. But this time, the talk of him "unretiring" has some interesting twist in it.
According to Mayweather, via an ES News interview, there only is one thing that could convince him to return to the ring -- a fight with UFC star and Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor. "If I do fight, it's only against Conon McGregor," he said. He believes the matchup is worth the try because it's "intriguing" enough.
Intriguing surely fits the prospect of him, a full-time boxer, mixing it up with an MMA fighter. Both are established superstars in their industries, with Mayweather not having tasted defeat ever. McGregor meanwhile is an ideal opponent to the one calling himself "The Best Ever" since he probably might be the only man in the planet who runs his mouth more than the welterweight boxing champ.

And while every hardcore fighting sports fan out there craves for this to materialize, it's not really that easy. For one, they don't practice the same sport, although one can argue that MMA and boxing belong to the hurt business. There really isn't concrete proof of negotiations between the two, and perhaps, the biggest obstacle is determining whether they're going for it in boxing or in the Octagon in an MMA fight.
If it's boxing, a few will give McGregor a chance to win because Mayweather can simple run all night and throw jabs enough to frustrate his opponent. If it's in mixed martial arts, then it's a totally different story since McGregor can bring Mayweather down to the ground.
But according to Yahoo Sports, there is a better chance of this happening in a boxing ring because McGregor faces a highly uncertain future in the UFC after getting pulled out from a scheduled match against Nate Diaz. So if Dana White and his UFC aren't in good terms with McGregor's camp, it means the Mayweather potential fight will never happen inside the Octagon.
