Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez Rematch Rumors Doing The Rounds after Win over Miguel Cotto

Rumors about a rematch between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Canelo Alvarez surfaced after the latter's win over Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision.

Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez has managed to snag the WBC middleweight title from Miguel Cotto during their recent bout. Now, fans are wondering who will be his next opponent, and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s name is one of those that came up, according to a CBS Sports report cited by Latinos Post.

Mayweather and Alvarez last fought in the ring in 2013, wherein the latter confessed that he was not in a right condition during that time. However, he is now ready to face Mayweather once again if his former opponent is still interested, the report details.

Unfortunately, Mayweather quashed any dreams of a rematch with Alvarez when he heard of the rumors. The retired professional boxer said he presently has no plans to enter the ring once again because he is still contented with being looked up to as the greatest boxer of all time, Sportsrageous reports.

"Canelo, you a good fighter, but you already know what it is when you face me, boy … I faced Canelo, Cotto, and Pacquiao, and I know who's the best out of the three," the Post quotes Mayweather's statement as reported by Fighthype. "I know how they all rate, and I know something all three of them guys got in common."

Meanwhile, another potential opponent for Alvarez is WBC challenger Gennady Golovkin, who is very interested to face the former. But Alvarez's camp wants to set a 155-pound catchweight. Although Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya still has not yet confirmed the fight, Alvarez has given his nod to Golovkin.

Now that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is out of the cards, Canelo will have to choose another opponent besides Golovkin. He is set to meet with De La Hoya to explore his options for his next bout.
