'Fortnite' Battle Royale Announcement Trailer: 100 Player PvP, Last Man Standing
"Fortnite" brings the intense high-stakes gameplay of "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" with its own 'Battle Royale' mode. Pitting 100 gamers in a last man standing player vs. player, the mode is available to test right now.
The new mode is set to hit Early Access on Sept. 26 Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac. Developers People Can Fly and Epic Games released a trailer for the new mode with new in-game footage.
According to Donald Mustard, Epic Games' Worldwide Creative Director, Battle Royale mode takes the sandbox survival's building and blends it with the best of the battle royale genre. Players are dropped down from a "battle bus" with only a pick axe, the rest is up to the players.
Gather resources, acquire weapons, and kill enemy players until no one is left. The focus not just on acquiring random weapons, health packs, and shields but also building defenses is what makes this iteration of the battle royale genre so unique. Aside from enemies, players also need to be wary of traps strewn across the environment which certainly adds more heart-pounding excitement.
Gameplay in Battle Royale mode is strikingly similar to PUBG except in the limitless world of "Fortnite" and that is something Epic is not ashamed about considering how popular the game is on Steam. After all, it was able to surpass Valve's pride and joy "Dota 2" in terms of concurrent players.
The update is certainly a breath of fresh air for players who want a little more than the standard player vs. environment experience the game has to offer. Introducing buildable structures has been a game changer for Epic Games as well as incorporating them into a whole new game mode. Hopefully, they don't stop here and continue to develop more new modes for players to enjoy.
"Fortnite" is currently available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac.
