'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Spoilers: Purple Wedding Photos Emerge, Death Of Character Ahead
"Game of Thrones" returned to HBO with its fourth season this month with its latest installment "The Lion and the Rose" set to air this Sunday, April 13.
In the season opener, "GOT" fans were introduced to Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) who poses a huge threat to the Lannisters. For spoilers read on. This week's installment will see the wedding between King Joffrey and Margaery Tyrell in a scene known as the "Purple Wedding." See photos taken from the scene here. However, the occasion ends in tragedy.
In a shocking scene similar to season three's "Red Wedding," Joffrey is poisoned and subsequently killed in this week's "The Lion and the Rose."
Meanwhile, Pascal who portrays the vengeful Prince Oberyn recently discussed his role on "GOT." Oberyn, who has a complicated backstory, is the Prince of Dorne, also known as the Red Viper. His sister Elia and her two Targaryen children were violently murdered by Greg Clegane, a knight of Lannister.
"I sat on the throne, of course I did," Pascal first admitted of working on the set of the series, according to MTV News. "It was surreal. There was a little bit of a battle going on, because I had a job to do, and hopefully do it well, while sort of geeking out in my brain about the size of the throne. And, like, seeing Cersei in the flesh, that kind of stuff."
Furthermore, Pascal noted the abundant gore and sexual content found in "GOT," and what that meant for his character- leaving behind some clues for fans about what season four has in store.
"[Like] how bloody naked I would be," the actor queried. "I knew the territory was going to be pretty intense. I can't say that I was prepared. I was in denial. And when certain situations presented themselves that were really challenging physically, or in terms of acting, or in terms of how much clothes I had on, I just jumped right in."
"Game of Thrones" airs Sundays on HBO at 10 p.m. EST.
