HBO has screened the first episode of the hotly anticipated sixth season of "Game of Thrones," treating guests to an "intense" hour filled with "genuinely shocking" scenes.
On Sunday, April 10, the much-hyped first episode of season 6 was screened for select guests at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. It is the only screening of the season 6 premiere that will be held before the new season debuts later this month on HBO. The top secret season 6 premiere hour was not even sent to critics in advance, something that HBO has done every year since the popular fantasy drama series debuted.
According to those in attendance, HBO and the show's producers asked guests to refrain from sharing any of the first episode's plot points or write official reviews about it. Nevertheless, several media outlets have managed to hand out some decidedly vague comments about the premiere without spoiling it for those who will have to wait two more weeks to see the first episode.

According to Entertainment Weekly, even hardcore fans who have speculated long and hard about the new season will not be able to guess what is coming in season 6. The outlet reports that some of the scenes in the debut episode are "genuinely shocking" and that although previous season starters have been slower in pace, the "intense new hour" picks up right where the season 5 finale left off and "hits the ground at full sprint."
Most of the main cast members of "Game of Thrones" walked the red carpet at the season 6 premiere screening. One of them, "X-Men: Apocalypse" actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, spoke about how she avoids spilling secrets about the new season.
"I have no idea what's about to happen in the season and that's good because it means I don't blab," she told Sky News. According to the actress, when she got the scripts for season 6, she only read the parts in which her character appeared and avoided reading the rest because she wanted to be able to watch the new season "as a fan."
Turner also spoke about why she thinks the show has become such a phenomenon, saying, "It is the balance between fantasy and normalcy to the point where it's not so fantastical or too far fetched."
"You can relate to it and it also has that sense of escapism and relationships that resonate to real people with real emotions," she added.
"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on Sunday, April 24.
