Golden State Warriors injury rumors: Klay Thompson confirmed with sprained ankle
The Golden State Warriors' shooting guard Klay Thompson sprained his right ankle in the last moments of the game against Indiana recently.
Thompson actually took game high honors in last week's shootout, finishing with a season high 39 points, highlighted by 10 three-pointers. After the game, he was seen walking on his own without assistance but it was clear there was some limp on the right foot. The team later announced that he underwent X-rays and results were negative, but additional tests will be performed the next morning.
Asked by a bunch of reporters of what he thinks about the injury, he appeared to be not worried. "It's probably going to be sore for a couple of days, but I should be back in no time," he said.
But what should be taken seriously here is the fact that he and the Warriors could have prevented it in the first place. The game was basically over with just under a minute left, when Thompson carelessly jumped out to defend and contest the jump shot of Pacers forward Chase Budinger, which actually didn't matter even if it did go in. He landed awkwardly near Shaun Livingston, got out of balance, and turned his ankle. Golden State actually led by as much as 28 points, but a spirited rally by the Pacers led by Paul George forced interim coach Luke Walton to check starters back late in the fourth.
Good thing though it appears that the injury isn't as serious as previously thought.
