Golf News 2015: Star-Studded Cast for Abu Dhabi as Spieth, Fowler to join Rory and Stenson
For golf fans, no news is better than a tournament with four of the biggest names in the sport participating, with only one to come out on top. Abu Dhabi organizers are bold enough to organize the strongest season field of the New Year so far, pitting the likes of Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, and Rory Mcllroy.
The European Tour's HSBC Championship is scheduled for Jan. 21-24, 2016, which will feature four of the current top 10 in golf's official rankings. The event is actually played at the same time with the PGA Tour's CareerBuilder Challenge in the other side of the world — in Palm Springs.
Organizers of the tournament announced the inclusion of the four on Wednesday.
The tournament will feature a $2.7 million prize purse, which actually is the biggest for the entire European Tour's so-called "Desert Swing."
Spieth is quite excited for his very first stint in this tournament. The 22-year-old golf phenom hopes that the start for 2016 in Abu Dhabi will be a great one, so as to maintain his momentum this year, winning back-to-back Majors and reaching the status of world number one. "I am looking forward to coming to Abu Dhabi, especially after Rickie told me about what a fantastic event it is," he said.
He added that he always loves traveling and see the world, especially now that he's going to visit Abu Dhabi.
While Spieth will be making his debut, Fowler, on the other hand, is coming back for his second Abu Dhabi event. Mcllroy is the most experienced in the four, having recorded four runner-up finishes in the event so far, according to Ryan Lavner reporting for Golf Channel.
Meanwhile, Spieth and Fowler will be sharing the field with another top-ranked golfer, Jason Day, at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to be played in Hawaii on Jan. 7-10. After that event, they're expected to travel all the way to the desert in the capital city of The United Arab Emirates.
