Google Nexus 6 Release Date Rumors, Specs: Q4 2014 Launch With 5.5-Inch Display, or Arrival of Android Silver?

The Google Nexus 6 release date is most likely at the end of Q4 2014, according to various reports out at the moment.

A new Nexus smartphone has been released every year since the original was released in 2010, and so far, almost heading into September 2014, no new Nexus device has been forthcoming yet.

However, most believe that is about to change. Analysts who look back over the dates of previous Nexus releases have spotted a pattern, and if that pattern of releases holds steady in 2014, then Google Nexus fans can expect the Nexus 6 device to have a release date towards the end of the year, late in Q4.

There has not been much official word of the new Nexus 6 device, with Google's senior vice president, Sundar Pichai, only previously confirming that the new device would not be released in the first half of 2014.

Those comments, coupled with the usual release dates of the Nexus devices all point towards a fourth quarter launch being a big possibility.

Some rumors have claimed that the device will be available to fans sometime late in October or the first half of November 2014, to be out in time for the Christmas holiday shopping period. Those dates have also been touted as the timeline for Google to launch its latest operating system, the Android L, also known as Lollipop.

Some other reports still paint another picture. Some have claimed that the Nexus line is not going to continue at all, and that the line of popular smartphones will be discontinued by Google.

Those same reports claim that Google will instead upgrade the line to a new series of Android Silver phones. Those claims seem to stem from a report by Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin and The Information.

Those claims state that the Android Silver line will aim to encourage the use of higher quality materials and more stylish designs that "closely adhere to Google specifications."

Earlier this year, Evleaks took to Twitter to boldly declare that "there is no Nexus 6" and that the Android Silver will replace the line, and will be set for a release date in February 2015.

However, those claims have been rebuffed by at least one source who claims to come from within Google, who told Ausdroid that the Nexus 6 will be launching this year, and will even feature a 5.5 inch display.
