Grammy Awards 2016: Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd Top Nominations
The candidates for the Grammy Awards 2016 have been announced, and Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd came out at the top with the most number of nominations.
On Dec. 7, CBS aired former Grammy awardee Alicia Keys' announcement of the four major nominations ahead of the unveiling of the full list. Taylor Swift clinched seven nominations including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Music Video for her song "Bad Blood," Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance, according to The Guardian.
The Weeknd also bagged seven nominations including Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Can't Feel My Face," Best Urban Contemporary Album for "Beauty Behind the Madness" Album of the Year, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song for "Earned It," and Best Song Written for Visual Media, the report relays.

Lamar's single "Alright" got him three nominations including Song of the year, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video. He also nailed other Grammy nominations including Best Album for "To Pimp a Butterfly," Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Collaboration for "These Walls." All in all, Lamar got 11 nominations for the 2016 awards, the Los Angeles (LA) Times reports.
Meanwhile, the nominees for Best New Artist Category are Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, and Meghan Trainor. Producer-songwriter Max Martin took home six nominations, while Drake got five.
"This all comes from artists today who are emboldened, who are fearless and who are not willing, or wanting to be, sort of put in a nice little box with a bow on it," Recording Academy President Neil Portnow told the LA Times.
It is worth noting that Adele's album "25" is not included in the 2016 Grammy nominations despite it being a massive hit. The Times explains that the album came out on Nov. 20 and the eligibility period for the ceremony ended on Sept. 30.
The 2016 Grammy Awards winners will be determined by the 13,000 Recording Academy members. The ceremony will be held on Feb. 15, 2016.
