'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers: New Teaser Shows Meredith's Attacker

After so many life-threatening violent encounters and near-death mishaps, it's a miracle that Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is still standing. But is that about to change?

It has been previously reported that when the new season returns, Meredith will be attacked and that it will be, as actress Kelly McCreary, who plays Dr. Maggie Pierce on the show, says, "as gruesome and terrifying as it looks." Earlier this month, ABC released its "TGIT" promo video, which showed Dr. McDreamy's widow bloodied and lying face-down on the floor after apparently having been shot, stabbed, or otherwise physically attacked.

"As bad as things have gotten for Meredith, this is bad in a whole different way," McCreary recently told TVLine.

ABC's teaser and McCreary's comments left a bunch of questions about the incident. What exactly happened to Meredith? Who was the attacker? Will she die? Be paralyzed? Are there other victims? Why does Shonda Rhimes keep trying to kill this character?

Now, a new promo has answered at least one of these questions and revealed the person responsible for Meredith's latest trauma. The short clip shows Meredith tending to a male patient in the ER before said patient gets up and slams her into a cabinet and throws her to the floor.

The episode in which Meredith once again fights for her life was helmed by award-winning actor/director Denzel Washington, who was just honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2016 Golden Globes.

After surviving a rogue shooter in the hospital, a plane crash, a bomb threat, a near-drowning, the birth of her son (in a power outage, in which she had massive abdominal bleeding), and a childhood with an unhinged parent, will this latest incident be the straw that breaks the camel's back?
