Guardians of the Galaxy 2 News: Sylvester Stallone's Role Revealed

Sylvester Stallone will be playing a role in Marvel Studios' newest iteration of the "Guardians of the Galaxy." Marvel though has kept mum about the star's involvement in the film. But some quick-spotting individuals have spied Stallone leaving a hotel in Atlanta where the movie's cast are housed. And not only that, the 69-year-old actor had a script clutched in his hand and rode a car frequently used by Chris Pratt, the lead star of the movie.

The seasoned action star was also spotted on the movie's set geared up in an armor-like suit, much like the costume of another character, Judge Dredd, which the actor has played in the past.

So, first things first; Stallone is NOT playing the role of Peter Quill's father, nor is he lending voice to Ego the living planet, although this had been widely rumored.

Stallone will be playing one of the Ravagers, most possibly one with more lines than the rest. The Ravagers are space pirates who are led by Yondu Udonta, played by the actor Michael Rooker. In the first movie, these space pirates were part heroes and part villains. As mercenaries, they were loyal to that which gives them the better return. With the Academy Award nominee joining their ranks in "Guardians of the Galaxy II," it may mean that the Ravagers will be getting a more significant role this time, having played only second fiddle to the Star Lord and the Guardians in the preceding film.

On another note, Howard the Duck was also seen during a recent scene shoot confirming rumors that the character will also be part of the second installment.

The upcoming movie from Marvel is written and directed by James Gunn. Besides Cooper and Pratt, who will be reprising his role as Peter Quill/Star Lord, the cast of the original Guardians will also be returning, including Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Vin Diesel as Groot's voice, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket's voice. New cast joining are Kurt Russell, Pom Klementieff, Chris Sullivan, and Elizabeth Debicki.

The movie is set to open in theaters on May 5, 2017.
