'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Cast News: Kurt Russell In Talks To Join Cast?
"The Hateful Eight" actor Kurt Russell has confirmed that he has been asked to play an undisclosed role in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," the much-anticipated sequel to 2014's "Guardians of the Galaxy."
The superhero film, which was directed by James Gunn, was based on the superhero team of the same name from Marvel Comics. It follows the story of Peter Quill/Star-Lord, a half-human half-alien who was abducted as a child, as he teams up with a band of intergalactic misfits, including Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).
Rumors have it that Russell is the favorite to play the role of Star-Lord's father in the sequel.

"I literally got a phone call two days ago about this," Russell revealed on Wolfpop's Happy Sad Confused podcast. The 64-year-old actor, who was promoting the forthcoming Quentin Tarantino film "The Hateful Eight," added: "I've never seen 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' I don't know anything about it... Many many times I've heard, 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie, great characters.' I don't know it. So, I didn't realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone."
The revelation comes weeks after Gunn announced that he was in the midst of "a very important casting" for the "Guardians" sequel, which is scheduled to begin filming in February.
In the podcast, Russell admitted that he was grateful for the offer but had to inform Gunn that he had to read the script and see the first "Guardians" film before he could agree to anything.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal earlier this month, Russell opened up about being in talks for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," saying: "It could be a one line thing for all I know. But yeah, we're talking about it."
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
