'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' News: Chris Pratt Sheds Tears Over Kurt Russell's Last Day On Set

Veteran actor Kurt Russell has finished filming for the upcoming Marvel sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," director James Gunn recently revealed via social media.

On Wednesday, May 11, Gunn announced the "Escape From L.A." star's last day on the set of "Vol. 2." "And that's a wrap on Kurt Russell on #GOTGVol2," the director tweeted. "A true talent and pleasure in every way. I will admit to a small tear in my eye."

Gunn, who also directed "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014), posted a lengthier statement on Facebook about Russell's work on the sequel. "I'll admit I'm welling up a bit," he wrote. "It's not often your heroes are as awesome in person as you believed they were as a kid. A wonderful guy and incredible actor in every way. And he was nice to my Mom, Dad, and dog. I couldn't ask for anything more."

Gunn's tributes to Russell received many likes and comments, with fans from all over voicing their admiration for the actor. One of these fans was "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), who reacted to Gunn's Twitter post by saying that he, too, had been emotional over Russell's work on the sequel.

"You're not the only one cryin'," Pratt wrote. "Kurt Russell is the f— best."

After several fans complained over his choice of language, Pratt issued an apology, saying that he was sorry for the language but that talking about how great an actor Russell is had made him a tad over-excited.

Russell's casting in the much-anticipated sequel was announced back in February but his role in the film has yet to be revealed. Still, it is widely suspected that the "Hateful Eight" actor is playing the role of Star-Lord's father.

The true identity of Star-Lord's missing-in-action father has been the topic of much fan speculation since the first film was released. Many have suggested that he is the Kree officer Mar-Vell while some have theorized that he could be Spartoi Empire leader J'Son, just as in the Marvel Comics.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
