'Homeland' Season 7 News: Official Trailer Shows Carrie in Danger, Saul in the White House

Showtime has released the official trailer for the upcoming seventh season of "Homeland."

The trailer opens with a scene from the season 6 finale where President-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) dodges an assassination attempt with the help of Carrie (Claire Danes). It looks like season 7 will pick up with the aftermath of the incident. Carrie will also be busy investigating corruption in the White House, which does not come as pleasing news to Keane.

"How is it they tried to assassinate me and I am the one under investigation?" Keane says.

As for Saul (Mandy Patinkin), the trailer shows him in federal prison, but Carrie and fans alike are surprised to see him seconds later as the new national security adviser. Right-winger Brett O'Keefe (Jake Weber), who was introduced in season 6, will also be playing a bigger role this time around. It definitely looks like he is forming some sort of army, targeting Keane on top of it all.

With powerful enemies, Carrie will have to sleep with one eye open. And, it becomes apparent that her life is in danger once more when she is seen donning a dark wig and discovering that they have been tailed. At the end of the trailer, Carrie can be seen beating someone up and threatening to kill them.

Unfortunately, Rupert Friend's Peter Quinn is nowhere to be found. It can be recalled that Quinn died while saving Carrie and Keane in the season 6 finale. While the show previously saved Quinn after putting his life in jeopardy in season 5, he is not so lucky this time around. Friend himself has said that he believes the end of his character came at the right moment.

Quinn may be gone, but "Homeland" will be introducing some new characters next year. According to Variety, Costa Ronin of "The Americans" has been tapped to play an undisclosed, recurring role. Sandrine Holt will also be a new face this coming season, while Lesli Margherita will reprise her role from season 6.

"Homeland" season 7 premieres on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
