HTC to Release Tablet of Their Own in 2015, Won't be Cheap

While HTC did well with the Nexus 9 release, it seems like they aren't satisfied with having released it under Google's name. It looks like they are planning to launch their own tablet in 2015 as HTC CFO Chia-lin has confirmed that they are intending to bring back the HTC brand back in the radar for the tablet market.

The confirmation came out during an earnings conference call last week. One thing is for sure though, the HTC tablet set for 2015 won't be cheap, as mentioned by HTC North Asia Presdient Jack Tong.

"It's not a profitable market. Thers is actually a bit more room for growth and product differentiation in the high-end and mid-tier tablet segments," says Tong.

Tong had been referring to the tablets which sold for less than $160. The Nexus 9 retails for $399, fitting into the price range that Tong is supposedly aiming for. If the company does manage to pull through with releasing a tablet in 2015, it would be the first tablet by HTC after the 2011 HTC Flyer – which did not meet as much success as the Nexus 9.

In the meantime, HTC had been offering some incredible discounts for their Nexus 9 tablets. The normal retail price for the $399 Nexus 9 was slashed by half, dropping the price at $199. However, the discount was placed in limited quantities and as expected, sold out fairly quickly. Interested buyers can still get a $50 discount on the 16GB and 32GB however.

It is still possible that HTC would be offering more discounts in the future as Black Friday draws closer.
