Hulu to Work on TV Adaptation for the Handmaid's Tale
Hulu is reportedly working on a new project which will be about a book written by Margaret Atwood titled "The Handmaid's Tale."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the original project from MGM Television has been given a straight-to-series order from Hulu, one of the biggest streaming service providers today. Elisabeth Moss, who is widely renowned for her role as Peggy Olson in the American period drama TV series, Mad Men, will be leading the cast.
The executive producers for this planned series include Daniel Wilson, who actually was part of the feature film based on the same book, Fran Sears, and Warren Littlefield, who is best known for Fargo, while the script will be written by Bruce Miller.

The book tells the story of a totalitarian and dystopian society called Gilead. The plot revolves around the belief of the community that women should be treated as property of its government. Moss will be playing the lead role, who happens to be one of the remaining few fertile women in town. She works as a handmaid in the home of the community's commander and is a part of the caste of women who endures the responsibility of serving sex to the populace in the hope of producing offspring in a world where the population is dwindling.
It remains to be seen how viewers will respond to a very sensitive topic like this, where a woman is looked upon as nothing more than an instrument for sex. Of course, the story is expected to showcase survival.
Handmaid's Tale will join the likes of The Path, Chance, and Shut Eye as the scripted drama shows Hulu will be showing this year, but it will be the very first collaboration between MGM and the digital network and streaming service.
