'Independence Day: Resurgence' Spoilers: Will Smith Is Killed Off

The trailer for the upcoming film titled "Independence Day: Resurgence" has finally been revealed.

After the success of the previously released "Independence Day," the sequel is expected to see the return of Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman's characters. The official trailer for the film showed David Levinson, played by Goldblum, getting back into business to protect America.

It was revealed that the film will tackle the problem of aliens who are planning to destroy America. The trailer had the statement, "Today we will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression and persecution but from annihilation. With that, the upcoming war on aliens is expected to introduce new characters to the franchise. It was reported that actors, such as Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner, will be joining the cast.

However it was confirmed that Will Smith will not be making an appearance in the upcoming film, which is to be directed by Ronald Emmerich. It was revealed that Will Smith, who played the role of Steve Hiller in the previous film, will no longer be reprising his role since the production team could not afford it. With that, there are many speculations as to how the character will be killed off in the film. The popular theory is that he died in an explosion.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" is expected to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
