iOS 11 WIll Make It Even Harder For Authorities To Extract Data

Since Apple decided to lock down its iOS with encryption that even they can't break, it has been known for its security which is one of the reasons why it has been so popular. In its latest iteration, the iOS 11 will make it even harder for anyone to extract user's data from their devices, and that includes the authorities.

Apple has done everything it can to prevent other people from accessing iPhones without permission. With several levels of encryption that even the company can't crack, this prevented thieves in profiting from stolen iPhones and law enforcement from getting crucial evidence.

One example of the latter is the company's legal standoff with the FBI over the seized iPhone of San Bernardino killer Syed Rizwan Farook. Now after one and a half years, Apple is adding yet another feature that will further prevent unauthorized access to its devices.

A post from ElcomSoft reveals details of a new feature in iOS 11 that will make that system a little bit harder to crack. The company is behind forensic software that pulls data off paired phones that were previously used to extract data from locked iPhones.

Now, users will no longer be able to pair devices using just the user's fingerprints, the full passcode will be needed as well. While a simple addition, this poses a huge challenge for authorities who now have to wade through even more legal hurdles to access iPhones.

Backing up devices has been a huge part of modern forensics, at least as far as the iPhone is concerned. With the introduction of the iOS 11, it will now make it harder for law enforcement to do that as they now must obtain not just the user's fingerprints but the user's passcode as well.

The iOS 11 is set to be released prior to the launch of Apple's latest flagship devices.
