Changes in Design
Although not yet officially claimed, a lot are expecting that the new gadget will have a more conservative redesign than its predecessor. However, it is also rumored to sport a 7.9-inch Retina display, just like the former device.
In terms of thickness, speculations said that the iPad Mini 5 will be a lot thinner at just 5 mm compared with the iPad Mini 4 at 6.1 mm.
The iPad Mini 5 will also have a 7000-series aluminum chassis like the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, making it more robust and durable than the iPad Mini 4.
Features to Expect
Reports claimed that the device is expected to have a 3-D Touch feature, which is already available on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It is believed, however, that Apple isn't ready to deploy the feature to the iPad line. Still, many believe that the iPad Mini 5 will have the 3-D Touch display at a big shot.
The iPad Mini 5 is also expected to house an improved A9 processor over the A8, which means that improved speed, graphics and resolution will be seen on the device.
A lot of people are also hoping for Apple to drop the 16GB model and instead go for 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models for the iPad Mini 5. Although there's no evidence to prove that, people are keeping their fingers crossed.
The iPad Mini 5 is also rumored to have the Live Photos feature, an exciting camera feature of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that brings photos to life through a captured three-second moving image.
Specifications of the New Device
Aside from the new and improved features of the device, Apple fans can look forward to the possibility of a waterproof iPad Mini 5.
Apple is apparently sticking to the 8-megapixel back camera, and the FaceTime camera will also remain at 1.2 megapixels. Some reports also claimed that it will have be a longer battery life and will be a lighter one than its predecessor.
Pricing and Release
The iPad Mini 5 is expected to follow the 2015 pricing model, starting at $399. The device is expected to be launched in September along with the iPhone 7 line.
