iPhone 7 Specs, Release Date Rumors: Everything People Know So Far

Every year, just as soon as Apple releases its newest smartphone, Apple superfans begin speculating on the next one. The excitement for new Apple products is such that combing the Internet for rumors on specs, designs, announcements, and release dates has become a year-round activity.

Now that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have been in the market for a couple of months, it is time to make predictions about the next device in the lineup, the iPhone 7.

Here, a collection of the most fascinating rumors about Apple's as-yet-to-be-announced smartphone.

Possible release date

The new iPhone will most likely debut in the fall, just as previous models have. The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were made available on September 25, around the time that students were heading back to school. It makes sense that the iPhone 7 will hit store shelves at around the same time.

The next big Apple event is supposedly set for March 2016, but this is expected to be for the launch of the new Apple Watch. And while there may be another Apple event in early 2016, this may be for the rumored iPhone 6c.

Major design changes

Because 2016 is an even-numbered year and even-numbered years at Apple mean major iPhone redesigns, it is expected that the iPhone 7 will feature some breathtaking innovations, possibly, as CNET hinted, a waterproof or water-resistant chassis or a buttonless iPhone.

Components

Apple fanatics are expecting a sapphire display with higher resistance to scratches and possibly even an OLED display. Rumors have it that the iPhone 7 will do away with the 3.5mm headphone jack, replacing it with an all-in-one Lightning connector or USB-C. There is also chatter about tap-to-pair capability, allowing iPhone users to tap speakers or headphones to pair through Bluetooth. As for the iPhone 7's camera, a 10-megapixel rear shooter and a double-lens DSLR-style camera are the most talked-about improvements.
