Jenny McCarthy on Melissa: I Never Criticized My Cousin's Weight

Jenny McCarthy is clearing the air on rumors surrounding her cousin, Melissa McCarthy, this week.

The famous family members have longtime been named in gossip indicating a strained relationship, and more recently, reported suggested that Jenny criticized her cousin for her weight. However, the "View" co-host dismissed the reports as untrue and hurtful.

"There is a crazy story going around that I once told my cousin, Melissa, that she would have to lose weight in order to get into show business," McCarthy explained to People. "Nothing could be further from the truth."

While Jenny was able to help the "Mike & Molly" star's career, the television talk show host gave her cousin full credit.

"She has accomplished everything she has accomplished through hard work and her extraordinary talent, and I've only encouraged and supported and wished her the very best," McCarthy noted.

In the past, McCarthy defended her cousin Melissa's cover on Elle magazine. Many people expressed outrage that the "Heat" star donned an oversized coat on the magazine cover, but Jenny defended both Elle magazine as well as her cousin.

"A lot of people are giving Elle magazine flak right now because my cousin Melissa McCarthy is on the cover," Jenny began. "She's my real cousin, she's my first cousin. And the thing that drives me nut is that people are up in arms, saying, 'Elle, how dare you? This is really upsetting that you're covered up, that you put a coat on her!'"

"The View" co-host went on to explain that the magazine was the Fall edition.

"She looks gorgeous," McCarthy said of Melissa. "Second, McCarthy girls, no one's gonna make us wear anything we don't want to wear. And guess what? This is a fall issue, about coats! So everyone needs to just shut up."
