Karl Lagerfeld Sorry for Calling Adele 'Fat'

World famous designer Karl Lagerfeld has apologized to singer Adele after previously calling her "too fat" in a Parisian newspaper.

The 78-year-old fashion icon believes his comments were taken "out of context," adding "Adele is a beautiful girl."

"I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer," Lagerfeld told Metro New York. "Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. Adele is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her."

Lagerfeld also admitted to having some weight issues of his own and said he admired Adele for her confidence in the face of media criticism.

"I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."

In his Monday interview, Lagerfeld did say he thought the 23-year-old British soul singer had a beautiful face, but he wasn't so gracious about the rest of her body.

"The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice," the creative director and head designer for Chanel told Metro Paris.

Adele responded to Lagerfeld's comments in People Magazine, saying she is proud of who she is.

"I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines," she said. "I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that."

This is not Lagerfeld's first time making offensive comments about women he considers overweight.

In 2009, Brigitte, a German women's magazine, announced that it was banning skinny models and using "real women," to promote their publication. Lagerfeld called the magazine's decision "absurd."

"No one wants to see curvy women," Lagerfeld told the website of news magazine Focus. "You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly," he added.
