Latest Boxing News: Tyson Fury Not Looking For Fight With David Haye
Newly crowned heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has no love for his fellow British fighter David Haye. Fury, who surprised everyone by defeating Wladimir Klitschko over the weekend, said that he might even resort to giving up one of his championship belts rather than fight the former champion Haye.
It seems like an interesting matchup especially for British boxing fans — two of the most formidable heavyweights in Europe who both bring in contrasting yet intriguing styles. Haye recently announced that he will be coming back after a brief hiatus from the sport, while Fury is currently on top of the division by grabbing all three belts from the Ukrainian Klitschko.
According to Fury, he's no way giving Haye another chance after the latter pulled out of their two previously scheduled fights, the most recent one in February 2013 when he was forced to undergo surgery to repair his shoulder. Speaking to The Guardian, the new heavyweight champ said that he even is willing to hand over his WBA belt. "Absolutely point-blank, I will say Haye will never get a chance after what he did to me. I will never give him a pay day," Fury said.
The 27-year-old went even further by saying that Haye is nothing but a "fraud, a pretender." "I don't care if he says I can make £10m, it's not about money for me. He is getting no opportunities from us," he insisted.
The new IBF/WBO/WBA/ and IBO heavyweight champ has an undefeated record of 25-0, with 18 knockouts, while Haye, who's coming off a two-year layoff has 26 wins, 2 losses, with 24 of those wins through knockouts.
While Fury is done for the year, doing it in style against a fighter whose last defeat was in 2004, Haye on the other hand will be entering the ring for the first time in three years. He is slated to face Mark de Mori in his home turf in 02 Arena in London.
