'Law & Order: SVU' Season 17 Episode 9 Spoilers: Return of a Hated Criminal Tests Benson
The upcoming episode of NBC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Law & Order: SVU" is expected to see the reappearance of a criminal that will surely shake the steady resolve of Lt. Olivia Benson.
Titled "Depravity Standard," the synopsis posted over at The Futon Critic indicates the return of Tom Sizemore as the child abductor Lewis Hodda. The character sent shivers to the spine when it first appeared in the show's 14th season in the fifth episode titled "Manhattan Vigil."
In that episode, fans may remember Mariska Hargitay's alter-ego looking closely at a kidnapping case involving a boy named Hector after another youngster named Wyatt was abducted. The Special Victims Unit gained the intel to link the two kidnappings together. After having reason to believe that they might find something under the cemented basement floor of a building, they dig the floor up and find Hector's body. David, Wyatt's father, discovers that his father owns that particular building so he finds the building manager, who happens to be Hodda and someone David has had a fight with. After being brought in for questioning, Hodda claimed responsibility for the kidnappings. The SVU immediately rushed to where the boy was kept and they were able to save Wyatt.
The summary from TFC for the new episode specifically said that a plea deal for the trial of the child abductor will be rejected. The case will once again find the SVU team more than eager to lock the criminal up, once and for all. Benson, in particular, can be seen in the promo video getting hands-on with the proceedings.
Fans may also remember that last episode, "Melancholy Pursuit," which revealed how affected Benson was when she lost sight of her adopted son Noah. Perhaps the lieutenant will be taking the case personally and will give her all in hopes of putting the man behind bars lest another child falls victim.
Still, with the rejected plea deal, the situation will force ADA Rafael Barba to rely on old evidence to win the case. His efforts, however, will be met with that of a former SVU colleague, Dr. Huang.
Find out how these events unfold when "Law & Order: SVU" Season 17 airs this Wednesday, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
