"Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West," executive producer Marc Guggenheim told EW. "But if you're going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We're thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television."

In the comics, Jonah Hex is a Civil War veteran who later became a bounty hunter. He often operates in line with his own moral code which seeks to protect and avenge the innocent and the helpless while he himself was a victim of abuse from his father. Born from the minds of writers John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, Hex is also known in the DC Comics Universe by his disfigured face, which others refer to as "the mark of the demon."

What is interesting is that, according to ComicBook.com, the antihero also happens to have done some time-travelling. The media outlet particularly pointed out his stint during the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" where he was "flung to the far future."

In the big screen, the character was adapted into a 2010 film of the same name starring Josh Brolin. Artists Adam Baldin and Thomas Jane, meanwhile, have voiced him in some cartoon appearances.

"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" debuts Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
