Lenovo A7000 Smartphone Gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update in India

Chinese multi-national technology company Lenovo is getting one of its old smartphones an update. According to a report by Softpedia, the mid-range smartphone A7000 will now be running with a new operating system as the firm has alread started the rollout of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the device in India.

The Lenovo A7000 was released in April 2015, as noted in Tech Times. Back then, the company pre-installed the handset the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system. But since the release of the Marshmallow, Lenovo promised that they will make an upgrade to the model. Tech 2 detailed that the update is available over-the-air and users can opt to manually check for it via Settings, then About Phone and then System Update.

With a package size of 1359 MB, owners of the Lenovo A7000 are advised to prepare at least 2 GB of free space on the device prior to downloading. Those who have already made the software update said that the build number is A7000-a_S153_151127_ROW_TO_A7000-a_S223_160405_ROW.

However, for those who are wondering, Gadgets 360 detailed that there is no official changelog available to highlight the changes that are arriving to the handset with update. It has been revealed though there are a number of new features that are expected like the Google Now on Tap, the Android Pay mobile payment system, the Doze mode, the fingerprint APIs for developers and plenty others.

Also, even though the device has been sold in several countries already since last year, the update is available only in India for now. Lenovo is working on making the upgrade available soon to other international markets.

For the device's specifications, the Lenovo A7000 sports a 5.5-inch HD screen and comes with an octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor with 2 GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 8 GB which can be expanded further up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot. It also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
