LG Files Patent to Trademark the 'G Edge' Name
LG recently filed several trademark applications pointing toward the smartphone manufacturer's bid for a "G Edge" handset, among its other patent submissions.
With competitor Samsung's latest smartphones carrying the Edge title, LG is getting in on the action with several patent applications using the "Edge" moniker as well.
The South Korean tech company has filed several trademark applications for a number of potential smartphone names with the word "Edge" in the title, one of which is the G Edge.

According to the trademark filing documents, LG is making a bid for exclusive use of the names "Two Edge," "Double Edge, "Side Edge", "Dual Side Edge," "Upper Edge," "Dual Edge," and "Super Edge."
While LG has not released any explanation for wanting to patent the names, it may perhaps be planning to give Samsung a run for its money in the curved-screen mobile phone market with a curved-edged device of its own, and has paved the way toward this goal by ensuring it gets exclusive dibs to "edge"-related titles.
As testament to this theory, LG presented a smartphone demo of a prototype-stage handset with two curved sides during the CES 2015 in Las Vegas, just a few months after Samsung released its Galaxy Note Edge.
With the smartphone market filled with device copiers that jump on the bandwagon of a popular feature, LG may intend to give Samsung a run for its money with improved edged smartphones of its own.
No information has yet been released as to whether LG intends to create eight new smartphones based on the eight "edge" titles it has filed patents for, however it may be a safe bet the dual-edged prototype it demoed behind closed doors at the CES 2015 will be a recipient of one of those names.
